#ThomasFire Acreage, Containment Increase | 12



The Thomas Fire started on December 4, 2017 at around 1826 hours PST from an unknown cause.


Located in the upper Ojai area near Thomas Aquinas College in the city of Santa Paula in Ventura County.  It was originally reported on Hwy 150 & Hwy 126 originally north of Santa Paula. 


The cause is being investigated.

8,083 fire personnel along with 983 fire engines, 152 fire crews, 27 helos, 79 dozers and 52 water tenders. CAL FIRE IMT -4 in command.


Cooperating agencies are CAL FIRE, VCSO, Santa Barbara Co FD, SBCoSO, VFD, City of VPD, USFS/LPNF, CAL OES, Red Cross, So CAL Ed, CHP, CA DOC, SoCaGas, Crimson Pipeline, Wildfire Defense Systems, CA Resources Group, Santa Paula PD, SPFD, VC OES, SB OEM, Big Bear FD, Santa Barbara County FD (Engines and Dozers), Redding FD, Turlock FD, Modesto FD, StanConFD, BCFD#1, Clackamas FD, Tualatin Fire & Rescue, CA National Guard, US National Guard.

Santa Barbara County FD’s 5 engines and 2 dozers are in the process of building a fire break and laying 10,000 feet of hose across a canyon from atop Camino Cielo down to Gilbraltar to make a stand should the fire move in that direction. (Credit: Santa Barbara Fire Info PIO)

WA Fire Resources:  1 engine from Benton Co Fire District #1, 1 engine from Richland FD, 1 engine from Walla Walla Fire District #4 and 2 engines from Chelan FD. (as of 12/12/2017) Snohomish County Strike Team.  Have been updated with 5 contract units (unknown agencies or areas).  We are working on reaching out to find from the Agenc(ies), areas and the # of units deployed.

The fire has burned an additional 238,500 acres and an increased containment of 30%.

There has been 930 structures destroyed with 202 damaged. 18,000 structures are currently under direct fire threat.

Current cost-to-date for fire suppression and containment expenses have now reached up to $55,000,000 as of 12/11/2017.
